WNC Nature Center in Asheville NC has added a Gem Mine to their native wildlife animal facility enriching even further the great educational adventure for kids & families! Kids get a postcard identifying rocks they may find while panning for gems. Striving for hands-on opportunities, the idea is to teach children how to interact with the natural world.
The exciting new attraction features a 30-foot mining sluice and water tower, offering gem mining for a small fee as well as free opportunities for play with water. This is the latest addition to Explorer’s Outpost, where Captain Dave's Pirate Dawgs and Gift Shop are also located. Guests may purchase bags of roughage from Captain Dave’s Gift Shop for use in the mining sluice.
75 Gashes Creek Rd, Asheville, North Carolina (828) 259-8080
Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Admission fee.
