“Dugout Canoes: Paddling through the Americas” traveling exhibit is now at the NC Arboretum in Asheville NC through May 2, 2017.
Created by the Florida Museum of Natural History, based on the world’s largest archaeological find – 101 prehistoric dugouts from 500 to 5,000 years old were discovered in Newnans Lake in Florida. “Dugout Canoes” features ancient artifacts, tools, videos, models and life-size vessels to tell the story of how life and travel in the Americas have been affected by the use of dugout canoes through time.
